First Annual Pushcart Derby in Uptown Normal
Is your team powered by STEAM?
Gather your friends and family for the newest CDM event you won’t want to miss! On May 20, 2017, the Children’s Discovery Museum will partner with Illinois State University’s Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology for the first annual Pushcart Derby in Uptown Normal.
Teams of youth (3rd – 8th grade) will begin with a workshop led by ISU and Museum educators. Implementing principles of the design process and Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, teams will construct unique muscle carts. Then teams will test their designs and race to the finish in the road course derby. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.
Construction supplies will be provided. All you have to bring is your love of learning and plenty of muscle power! If you don’t have a team of friends to join you for the fun, register individually and we will match you with other budding creators and engineers participating in the event. Proceeds from the fundraising event will support the Museum’s mission—enabling the expansion of programs, creation of exhibits, continuation of outreach initiatives and scholarship provision for disadvantaged youth.
