Free Floor Programs at the CDM
Check out these exciting free floor programs offered at the CDM.
Free floor programming requires paid admission of $6 per person ages 2
and above and adult chaperone for children under age 16.
Physics Day – Physics of Toys
A lot of basic science can be found in sports and toys. The ISU
Physics Club does more than just study; they also like to play! They
will bring some of their favorite toys along, so come and see what
scientific concepts there are in their design and use on Physics Day!
Date: Thursday, January 21
Time: 10 to 11 a.m. & 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Physics Day – Machines and Circuits
Electricity and motors can be built into machines that will do
almost any task you need. The ISU Physics Club will bring some
demonstrations and equipment to show how these devices can be put
together and the relationship between electricity and motion.
Date: Thursday, February 18
Time: 10 to 11 a.m. & 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
National Agriculture Week
Celebrate National Agriculture Week! Step into AgMazing and
experience agriculture first-hand. Visit some farm animals, create art
projects, try science experiments and more. Each day will host a
variety of activities from a selection of experts in our community.
Look for details on our website. FREE with paid admission. Children
under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.
Dates: March 16-20
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Physics Day – Atoms and Molecules
Everything, everywhere, is made up of tiny objects called atoms. In
just the last 100 years, scientists have begun to understand the tiny
realm of atoms and molecules. The ISU Physics Club will be here with
some hands-on activities that will shed some light on the bizarre
world of the building-blocks of our universe.
Date: Thursday, March 25
Time: 10 to 11 a.m. & 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
NanoDays
Kick off NanoDays and delve into the world of the very small!
Discover how nanotechnology impacts our daily lives as well as the
development of amazing new applications for the future. Check out a
unique memory metal, watch in amazement the properties of liquid iron,
test how nanotechnology is applied to fabric and other products, play
with magic sand and become a scientist working at the molecular level.
Partnered with the Center for Nanoscale
Chemical-Electrical-Mechanical Manufacturing Systems at the University
of IL and the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net).
The NanoDays event was based on work supported by the National Science
Foundation under Grant No. ESI-05322536. FREE with paid admission.
Children under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.
Date: March 27
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Physics Day – Collisions
When two objects try to be in the same spot at the same time, they
can't! Let the ISU Physics Club demonstrate what happens in a
collision, and how to gain the advantage in your next bumper-car
experience!
Date: Thursday, April
15 Time: 10 to 11 a.m. & 6:30 to 7:30
p.m.
Earth Day Celebration
Partnering with the Ecology Action Center,
American Chemical Society and University of Illinois Extension
Celebrate our favorite planet with FREE activities including
composting worms, water conservation projects, circle the earth
bracelets and many more earth-loving activities.
Date: Saturday, April 24
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Physics Day – Electricity
How does the electricity from the power plant get to that outlet on
your wall? How is electric current related to the atom, and what is it
MADE of?? On Physics Day at the CDM, with hands-on activities and
demonstrations, you can explore the nature and behavior of electricity
in a fun, safe, and *shocking* way!
Date:
Thursday, May 6 Time: 10-11 a.m.
& 6:30-7:30 p.m.
