Make a Difference at the CDM!

“You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world… but it requires people to make the dream a reality.”
Walt Disney

Every day volunteers at the Children’s Discovery Museum help make our mission come alive as they “inspire the love of learning through the power of play” with all of our visitors. Volunteers at CDM make a difference in every area of the museum, from Exhibit Team Members whose work is play or Education and Programming Volunteers who help the education staff lead innovative programs with thousands of local school children. Everyone plays an important part in making the museum the most wonderful place in our community!

Volunteer Program Information

All of our volunteers attend an orientation and if over 18 complete a background check, BEFORE they begin work in the museum. If you are 18 or older, please bring your driver’s license and social security numbers with you to the orientation.

If you drive to the orientation, please park in the Amtrak lot to the south of the building.

At the orientation you will receive a volunteer newsletter with upcoming events and needs, and instructions for volunteering.

Summer Youth Volunteer Program

The CDM is looking for energetic and outgoing teens, ages 13-17, for our Summer Youth Volunteer program. Youth will spend their summer break as day camp counselors, exhibit team members, leading free floor programming, helping with special events and making new friends! Summer Volunteers “work” three hours per week with the museum.

Participants are required to attend a 90 minute training/orientation session on one of the following dates:

Thursday, June 7 9:30 a.m. or 1 p.m.
Friday, June 8 9:30 a.m.
Monday, June 11 9:30 a.m.

Internship Opportunities

The Children’s Discovery Museum has many opportunities for college internships. Students can gain invaluable experience in various departments and fields ranging from education and visitors services to exhibits and public relations. We are happy to work with you to create a unique internship experience that is beneficial for both you and the museum.

Potential Interns should fill out the Intern Application and return completed application with a cover letter and resume to the museum. Staff will then contact you for an interview.
