FETCH!™ Lab Activities at the CDM
Ages 5-10
Here is
the schedule of activities for the Museum’s FETCH!™ Lab. These
activities take place each day at 10 a.m. and are free
with paid admission.
December 8-13 Hoop Gliders and Helicopters
Build simple gliders and helicopters and learn the science that
surrounds flight.
December 15-21 Operation Espionage
Think like a detective while you learn how to write and decode secret
messages.
December 22-27 What’s the Buzz?
Make an instrument that anyone can play-a kazoo-and get the buzz on
sound vibrations.
December 22-January 3 Screaming String Thing
What a racket! Turn an ordinary cup and string into a screeching,
squawking sound machine.
January 4-10 Ice Cream Shake
Investigate the effects of heating and cooling and turn liquid milk
into solid ice cream right before your eyes.
January 12-17 Straw Oboes and Harmonicas
Make some music and construct oboes and harmonicas out of simple
materials!
January 18-24 Motion Picture
Create a thaumatrope-an optical illusion toy that makes two pictures
look like one.
January 26-31 Toy Chemistry
Mix up some simple ingredients to create a bouncy, stretchy, goopy
polymer!
February 2-7 Blow it Away
Construct a car, design a sail and discover how moving air makes it
move!
February 9-14 Float My Boat
Investigate floating and sinking. Build a tinfoil boat and load it up
with as many pennies as you can!
February 16-21 National Engineers Week – What Gives?
It’s National Engineers Week! Learn about engineering and design and
test a strong, supportive bridge out of simple materials.
February 23-28 Rescue Mission
Test out your design skills while you design and test a hook that will
rescue a sunken capsule!
