Halloween Hoopla

This popular fall family event is designed for ghosts and goblins of all ages! Kids and grown-ups alike come in costume to celebrate Halloween with trick-or-treating in the museum exhibits and spooktacular games and crafts.

Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Join us for our 6th Annual Dia de los Muertos! Dia de los Muertos is a Latino tradition that celebrates the circle of life by honoring and remembering loved ones that have died. Bring your family in to learn more and make traditional crafts like sugar skulls and shadow boxes.

It's time to get into the Holiday spirit and celebrate the season with the Museum! The whole family will enjoy a visit with Santa and fun Holiday games, all while wearing your pajamas.

Noon Year's Eve

Can't stay up till Midnight? The Museum has got you covered! Countdown to Noon with a confetti blast, face painting and noisemakers! Enjoy crafts and activities for all ages!

Art Around You: Exploring Contemporary Art in the Community 



The Children’s Discovery Museum has been awarded The Mirza Arts and Culture grant from the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation, Inc. (IPCF) which helps fund this program. 
 

Visit University Galleries and participate in a scavenger hunt to help you discover the style and media used to create works of art. Then return to the museum where you will explore these styles and media as you create your own art.

Illinois Master Gardeners 


Join Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois Extension on select Wednesdays in the Museum Dig It exhibit. Kids (and grown-ups) can get their hands dirty as Master Gardeners explore pollination, plant parts, lady bugs, seeds and more.  We will wrap up the summer with our traditional watercolor garden party.

Cost: Free with Admission 

Family Paint Night

Make a date with your family at the museum for a fun- filled night of painting!

Growing Up Wild! 

Master Naturalists are members of our local community that love nature! The mission of the University of Illinois Master Naturalist Program is to provide science-based educational opportunities that connect people with nature and help them become engaged environmental stewards. These activities will help children connect with nature and develop an appreciation for our world’s limited natural resources.

Cost: Free with Registration

Bird Beak Buffet:


Children learn about the special functions of bird beaks using household utensils and common foods, by creating with art, music and math.
