Books on the Go!

We are teaming up with the Normal Public Library for a Book on the Go! Check out our calendar for specifics on the books that will be read.

Sensory Friendly Night 


Join us for a family night of play, designed specifically for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other sensory processing differences!  Your family will experience all three floors of interactive exhibits in a comfortable and inclusive environment. Sensory friendly accommodations will be provided along with special sensory activities. This FREE event is presented in partnership with Autism McLean. Advance registration is required and space is limited.

Halloween Hoopla

This popular fall family event is deigned for ghosts and goblins of all ages! Kids and grown-ups alike come in costume to celebrate Halloween with trick-or-treating in the museum exhibits and spooktacular games and crafts. The Zoo Crew will be here to complete your look with free face painting! Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Join us for our 6th Annual Día de los Muertos! Día De los Muertos is a Latino tradition that celebrate the circle of life by honoring and remembering loved ones that have died. Bring your family in to learn more and make traditional crafts like sugar skulls and shadow boxes.  Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Jammies and Jingles 

It's time to get into the holiday spirit and celebrate the season with the CDM! The whole family will enjoy a visit with Santa and fun holiday games, all while wearing your pajamas. You won't want to miss this favorite family event! Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Noon Year's Eve

Can't stay up 'til midnight? The CDM's got you covered! Countdown to Noon with a confetti blast, face painting and noisemakers! Enjoy crafts and activiites for all ages too! Don't miss this family tradition as you ring in the New Year!  Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Art Around You: Exploring Contemporary Art in the Community 



The Children’s Discovery Museum has been awarded The Mirza Arts and Culture grant from the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation, Inc. (IPCF) which helps fund this program. 
 
Visit University Galleries and participate in a scavenger hunt to help you discover the style and media used to create works of art. Then return to the museum where you will explore these styles and media as you create your own art.
