On Saturday February 11, dozens of children and adults took the plunge into computer science in an “Hour of Code” at the Children’s Discovery Museum in Uptown Normal.
Organizers say the response bodes well for a larger event to be held in conjunction with the National Hour of Code, as part of Computer Science Education Week, scheduled for December 4-10, 2017.
“We designed the program to be a one-hour introduction to computer science that proves to anybody that they can learn the basics of ‘coding,’ an elementary step to broader participation in the field of computer science,” said Shelleigh Birlingmair, Executive Director of Cultural Arts for the Town of Normal. “Computer science is fun and creative, accessible at all ages and for all students, regardless of background.”
The Hour of Code is an outgrowth of the Digital Alliance between Microsoft and the Town of Normal.
