WGLT Article: Children's Museum To Add Cleaner, More Accessible Climber

The new climbing playspace coming to the Children’s Discovery Museum will be more accessible to those with disabilities and could become an eye-catching after-hours feature for Uptown.

The museum recently learned it will receive a $568,700 state grant for the new climber. It will replace the 16-year-old climber that now overlooks the circle on the building’s northwest corner.

WMBD Article: Children’s Discovery Museum awarded IDNR grant for new climbing exhibit

NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — The Children’s Discovery Museum’s iconic climbing exhibit will be replaced with an updated design and improved materials thanks to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Public Museums Capital Grant Program.

The museum was awarded $568,700 for the design, fabrication, and installation of a new Luckey Climber.  The Foundation will add $10,000 in private funds to help cover demolition costs.

Pantagraph Article: Children's Discovery Museum reimagines 'Luckey Climber' exhibit

NORMAL — The Children's Discovery Museum's climbing exhibit is getting a makeover.

The museum announced plans to use $568,700 in state capital grants to redesign and upgrade the iconic "Luckey Climber" feature. The grant was awarded through the Illinois Public Museum Capital Grants Program, funded by Gov. J.B. Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois state capital program.
