Normal, IL –May 31, 2019 – The Children’s Discovery Museum has received a grant from the Women to Women Giving Circle for $7000 to educate children, families and educators in our community through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) outreach programs.
Children’s Discovery Museum and Scott Early Learning Center are partnered to improve early learning opportunities for the whole family through STEAM. With an emphasis on learning through the power of play, this partnership offers a multi-faceted program to the children enrolled at Scott Early Learning Center.
Each classroom will receive a STEAM based Museum in Motion outreach program that takes place once a semester. Students will participate in hands on activities and receive take home activity kits to engage the whole family in playful learning outside of the classroom. Educators will also receive professional development resource kits to help further learning in the classroom.
Other components of this program include field trips and family nights at the museum. Students and staff will receive a field trip to the museum to continue learning through play. To ensure that everyone benefits from this program, families are offered one private family night at the museum and two activity visits to the Scott Early Learning Center to engage in hands on activities together.
“Research continues to prove how vital the early years are in a child’s learning and development. We are excited that through a new partnership with the Scott Early Learning Center, our programming will be able to impact the lives of some of the youngest learners in our community in a fun and engaging way!” - said Early Childhood Educator, Erin Wiese-Reichert.
