S.T.E.A.M. powered Pushcart Derby
Normal, IL – June 10, 2019 – Central Illinois students will put brainpower and flying feet together in the Children Discovery Museum’s third annual Pushcart Derby!
On Saturday June 15, the Museum’s educators and volunteers will collaborate with Illinois State University’s Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology (CeMaST) to engage children in hands-on learning and play with a Pushcart Derby.
The Derby begins with a workshop for teams to design, build, and test their pushcart with style and speed in mind. After the morning construction workshop, the public is invited to come to the Parkinson Lot located just south of the Museum at 11:00 am to watch and cheer as kids add their muscle and foot-power to the speed equation as all Pushcart Derby teams race the road course challenge.
Participants will have a fun time working together and seeing how STEAM principles can create amazing things, but there is also a competition aspect to this day. There will be prizes awarded to recognize best use of STEAM Principles, Teamwork, and Speed.
The proceeds from this event support the Museum’s mission of “Inspiring the love of learning through the power of play.” Funds enable the expansion of education programs, the creation of exhibits, outreach initiatives, and scholarships for disadvantaged youth.
We hope to see you at the race track!
