Normal, IL – September 18, 2019 – The Children’s Discovery Museum has been awarded two grants from the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation, Inc. (IPCF). The IPCF General Grant will help fund new programming for the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal and The Mirza Arts and Culture Grant funds the continuation of the Art Around You Program.
The Children’s Discovery Museum will provide STEAM Powered Play programming which is composed of several four-week sessions, supplementing the existing afterschool activities at the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal (BGCBN). The programing will offer the opportunity for youth in grades K-5 to engage in meaningful hands-on activities that allow them to delve deeper into the learning process through informal educational experiences.
The Town of Normal Children’s Discovery Museum in partnership with Illinois State University Galleries will continue to offer the free, educational opportunity for children in second through fifth grade to view, discuss, and create contemporary art thanks to The Mirza Arts and Culture Grant.
From September 2019 to May 2020, a three-hour workshop will begin with an expert led gallery viewing experience at University Galleries. Then, at the Museum students will create their own artwork to explore the styles and form of art experienced at the gallery.
