‘Doctors in Concert’ fundraiser rescheduled for September

Normal, IL – April 24, 2020 – The Children’s Discovery Museum Foundation has officially rescheduled its much-anticipated annual Doctors in Concert fundraising event to Friday, September 18, 2020 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Bloomington. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the April event was postponed until the Museum and volunteer committee could reschedule to a safer time for social gatherings.

“Thank you to our planning committee and our committed physicians for their flexibility,” said Beth Whisman, Executive Director. “The timing of this event remains very important as we move forward with our plans to build the Healthy Me exhibit. We hope our friends and supporters will save the new date and support this project that will serve families for the next 10-15 years.”

This year’s festivities will include live music, hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, and silent auction. The evening’s music will be provided by the musical talents of seven local physicians playing classical and contemporary melodies on piano, violin, cello, guitar, and even a ukulele:  Dr. Jerry Antonini, Dr. William Bond, Dr. Daniel Brownstone, Dr. Carl Cortese, Dr. Joseph Liu, Dr. Darrell Looney, and Dr. Susan Sheppard.

Proceeds support public health, prevention education

Proceeds from Doctors in Concert will help fund the new Healthy Me! medical exhibit, opening this fall.

“The healthcare experts we worked with to establish the exhibit’s goals were very intentional about the public health and prevention components,” Whisman said. “Many of the messages we’re hearing about hand-washing, telemedicine, and self-care during this ongoing situation with COVID-19 are featured in this exhibit."

Tickets are $30 in advance, $25 for students and seniors in advance, and all tickets will be $35 at the door on the night of the event. Advance tickets are available online at Individuals who already purchased a ticket or sponsorship for the April event will receive the same benefits in September.

CDM Educators will once again provide free children’s programming on site while parents enjoy the concert. There is no additional charge for ticketholders, but space is limited, and reservations are required. (Children must be 4-11 years old and potty trained to participate.)
