  1. School Age Program- Nano World: 5-8 year old

    March 3, 2021, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

    If in-person programs are not safe to host, a program kit will be made available. Nanoscience is the study materials on an ultra-small scale. We will explore activities to show us what it is like for scientists to work with things that are so small you can’t see them with your eyes or manipulate them with your fingers! All participants will be required to wear a mask for the entirety of the program. If Wednesday and Friday programs fill, a Thursday session will be added. **Classes will be limited to 9 students each session. Each program will need a minimum of 5 students to run. School age programs are available to students between the age of 5 and 13. We ask that families sign their child up for the appropriate section. These programs allow children to experience STEAM based activities and concepts through hands-on experiments, building, and play. Children will have their own table and set of supplies and will not share materials with other program participants.

  5. Family Paint Night-Whimsical Clovers Canvas Painting

    March 9, 2021, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

    These programs will be kit based and instruction will occur via Zoom until it is safe to meet in-person. Join us for a fun opportunity to create and paint together as a family! Each family ticket (one adult & one child) includes two canvases that you will keep. All art supplies needed for the activity are provided and guided instruction is given. No prior painting experience is required! Participants are required to wear a mask for the entirety of the program. Classes will be limited to 5 adult/student pairs. Each program will need a minimum of 2 adult/student pairs to run. Programs are designed for a child and a caregiver to attend and enjoy making something together.

  6. Art Around You Exploring Contemporary Art in the Community- Alice Hargrave

    March 13, 2021, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

    Join us for an in-person, hands-on art exploration experience! As a class, take a live virtual tour of University Galleries led by their staff and then explore new art styles and media as you create your own artwork inspired by the tour. Registration closes 7 days in advance of program and will need a minimum of 5 students to run. All participants are required to wear a mask for the entirety of the program. Students will each have their own table and set of supplies- materials will not be shared with other program participants.   7. Nature Walks with Ecology Action Center

    March 13, 2021, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

    Take a walk with Museum and Ecology Action Center Educators. This monthly program intended for parents and children over 5 will explore the constitution trail between the Museum and Hidden Creek Nature Sanctuary, a 1.5 mile round trip walk. Each month we will see new and different things as we learn about our local environment and how we can support it as well as watch the seasons change. Registration is limited to 5 parent/child pairs. A second section will be added if the first program is full.

  8. STEAM Challenge Workshop-Leprechaun Catchers

    March 17, 2021, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

    These programs will be kit based and instruction will occur via Zoom until it is safe to meet in-person. St. Patrick’s Day is upon us and there are Leprechauns roaming the town. Join us to build your very own Leprechaun catcher! STEAM Challenge Workshops offer parents and children an opportunity to engage in hands-on STEAM based learning and exploration together. Each program consists of instructor led discussion of STEAM principles and various STEAM challenges that parent/child pairs will work together to solve! Participants are required to wear a mask for the entirety of the program. Classes will be limited to 5 adult/student pairs. Each program will need a minimum of 2 adult/student pairs to run. Programs are designed for a child and a caregiver to attend and enjoy making something together.

    If your family is not quite ready to attend in-person programs, but you are missing Miss Erin’s hands-on activities, we have a kit option for you! Kits includes a link to Miss Erin reading a story. Kits include directions and most supplies needed for three hands-on activities that focus on STEAM based learning through fine motor, process art, and sensory exploration activities. Supplies not included are common household materials such as a cookie sheet, large mixing bowl, measuring cups, etc. A newsletter will be included that will offer bonus activities to try with items from your house or your backyard, Miss Erin’s recipe for the play dough of the month, and suggestions for books to read that go along with our month’s theme. Additionally, there is an option to receive a toy from our lending library. You would be able to play with this toy for 3 weeks before returning it to the museum. If you wish to borrow a toy with your kit, please select yes on the registration question.
